 Negro Spirituals var sanger med kristent innhold som afro-amerikanske slaver sang. Det var gjerne innhold med bibelske motiver fra jødefolkets førerskikkelser og om frigjøring fra arbeid og slit. Disse sangene ble ofte sunget på friluftsmøter hvor sangen fikk form som spørsmål og svar mellom forkynner og meninghet.
